About the Project

It has been identified in a number of strategic documents and studies including the Western Sydney Rail Needs Study, Future Transport 2056, and A Metropolis of Three Cities and underlying Central District Plan
and Western District Plan. The proposed line passes through a mix of undeveloped greenfield land in the future Aerotropolis as well as many established suburbs in the Central City. To avoid the risk of development encroaching upon optimal corridor alignments and limiting the ability to construct the project in the future, Transport for NSW is undertaking a corridor preservation process which aims to protect the corridor in the long term.

Mecone was engaged by Transport for NSW (TfNSW) to lead a land use planning team comprising Mecone, COX and JLL to undertake a land use analysis for the identification and preservation of the future EWRL
corridor. The scope of works included:

  • Undertaking an analysis of the current land use context;
  • Undertaking a constraints analysis;
  • Engaging with a wide range of government stakeholders through inter agency workshops;
  • Undertaking a city shaping opportunities analysis;
  • Investigation of the potential for land use change in the vicinity of station locations; and
  • Advising on potential considerations for options evaluation for the next. phase of corridor protection.
