    Responsibilities

    • Assistance with local and major Development Applications during the Pre-DA, lodgement, and assessment process. These tasks include preparing Statement of Environmental Effects, liaising with the approval bodies to respond to RFIs, and assisting with Section 4.55 modifications
    • Respond to internal and external stakeholder enquiries and provide information and advice on current planning matters
    • Tendering support which includes tracking, notifying, converting and collating key tender documents in order to identify important planning opportunities for the business
    • Providing high level of customer service and presenting a positive image of Mecone
    • Assist with development of team-based processes to enhance effective collaboration
    • Collaborate effectively within a team environment with Council. Students are likely to deal with large, complex developments which will require various inputs and liaison with different sub-consultants
    • Undertaking data analysis and DA tracking on an ad-hoc basis for policy projects
    • Undertaking other tasks as directed by the Director, Manager and/or Team Leader
    • Interpreting and applying planning legislation where relevant

    Skills

    • Proficiency in English language and comprehension
    • Ability to interpret and apply planning legislation that students have studied in their planning degrees at university
    • Ability to manage time frames efficiently and prioritise a number of projects within specific timeframes
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite is desirable with operational skills in Word, PowerPoint and Excel
    • Students with an interest and skills in GIS, data analysis and data visualisation are strongly encouraged to apply

    About the role

    Working closely with, and supported by, the experienced Environmental Planning Director, this role is focused on providing planning approval services, including:

    • Planning and environmental risk assessments and due diligence
    • Undertaking environmental impact assessments to support Development Applications, Review of Environmental Factors and Environmental Impact Statements.
    • Project managing and coordinating multi-disciplinary project teams
    • Stakeholder and agency consultation

    Responsibilities

    • Employ a thorough understanding of statutory, strategic, and land use planning principles at a strategic and technical level to provide practical and expert planning advice to clients and the project team
    • Prepare high-quality environmental impact assessments, planning reports and deliverables
    • Interact with and project manage technical professional inputs, project teams, and other stakeholders within multi-disciplinary planning projects
    • Engage with the community, councils, government agencies and other stakeholders on project specific planning matters to progress projects.
    • Ensure deadlines and project objectives are being achieved and meet company, client, and quality standards
    • Represent Mecone at client workshops/meetings and provide advice on planning matters
    • Ability to manage and progress projects with minimal oversight, including direct contact with client PMs
    • Awareness and tracking of project budgets and prepare monthly project invoices for review by Directors
    • Management and prioritisation of competing deadlines, alerting Directors where capacity issues are foreseeable
    • Provide guidance to junior staff
    • As required, manage team members to ensure deliverables are provided on time and within budget to client’s satisfaction.
    • As required, manage subconsultants and ensure their deliverables are meeting deadlines and project objectives.
    • Assist in preparing fee proposals and tender responses
    • Maintain awareness of planning trends and ability to identify further work opportunities from these for existing jobs and clients
    • Identify business development opportunities and utilise your networks to facilitate business growth
    • As required, promote the Mecone brand in business functions and professional events.

    Skills

    • Degree qualified in urban and regional planning (or environmental science)
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Min. 5 years’ experience in private and/or public planning roles
    • Confidence in decision making and ability to work independently
    • Ability to astutely apply and articulate relevant statutory planning issues
    • Australian citizen or appropriate work visa
    • Commitment to workplace flexibility, diversity, equality and environmental sustainability
    • Experience with Environmental Protection Licence applications (advantageous)
    • Experience in EPBC Act referrals (advantageous)
