The Summit brought together leaders from across government, planning, development, finance and infrastructure to discuss one of the most important challenges facing NSW: delivering more housing and creating great places for people to live.
A key theme throughout the day was that there is no single solution. Responding to the housing challenge will require collaboration, practical thinking, coordinated action and a shared focus on turning ideas, approvals and policy reform into real housing outcomes.
The day opened with a timely address from the Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, The Hon Paul Scully MP, including discussion around the NSW Governmentโs expanded Pre-sale Finance Guarantee and the need to unlock stalled projects and accelerate delivery.
It was also great to see Ann-Maree Carruthers , Director, Policy & Urban Analytics at Mecone, moderate the opening panel, Key takeaways from the discussion were that recent planning reforms delivered by the NSW Government have improved confidence across planning and the development industry, while also highlighting the ongoing constraints impacting housing delivery, including feasibility, planning culture, local infrastructure funding, land costs, and the need for AI to play a greater role in planning.
We also heard from the Minister for Housing and Homelessness, The Hon Rose Jackson MLC, on the vital role safe, secure and stable housing plays in peopleโs lives, communities and futures.
Across the program, discussions covered planning reform, new living models, project financing, infrastructure timing and real world delivery innovation. A particularly interesting takeaway was hearing from Michael Romano of FREECITY on modular construction, with Freecity leading the way in delivery innovation and demonstrating how new approaches can help accelerate housing supply at scale.
Thank you to the Property Council of Australia for hosting such a valuable event. Our partnership is one we value highly, reflecting a shared commitment to improving housing outcomes, supporting good planning, and contributing to the important conversations needed to respond to NSWโs housing challenge.
