About the project

With a particular focus on open space, the project combined demographic analysis, service demand modelling and benchmarking to forecast the parks, recreation and community facilities required for a rapidly growing population.

Proposed locations for open space and infrastructure considered land ownership, environmental constraints and forecast needs. Engagement with Council and stakeholders guided recommendations for the delivery of infrastructure – including co-located and multipurpose facilities – staged to match development uptake, and identified areas for acquisition compared to delivery through development.

Mecone provided a number of planning services including:

  • Open space and community infrastructure needs assessment for a rapidly growing population
  • Demographic analysis, service demand modelling and benchmarking to forecast parks, recreation and community facility needs
  • Siting analysis considering land ownership, environmental constraints and forecast needs
  • Engagement-informed recommendations for staged, co-located and multipurpose facilities, and areas for acquisition versus developer-led delivery
