About the project

The site is prominently located within the Chatswood CBD on the corner of the Pacific Highway and Ellis Street. It recently benefitted from significant development uplift as a result of the Chatswood CBD Planning and Urban Design Strategy 2036 which aims to provide capacity for future growth and employment in the Chatswood CBD over the next 20 years. Mecone was engaged by Central Element Pty Ltd to manage the first Architectural Design Competition held in Willoughby Council for the redevelopment of the site into a mixed use residential, commercial and retail development. As Competition Manager, Mecone organised and administered the design competition. Following the successful Design Competition, Mecone were engaged by Central Element to assist in preparation of two development applications, based on the design competition winning scheme, for the mixed-use redevelopment of the site. These included an early works DA, and subsequent detailed design DA. The development includes a 17-storey mixed use building comprising a mixed-use podium with over 1,200m2 of commercial/ retail floor space with a residential tower comprising 49 apartments. The proposal also includes the provision of affordable housing, public artwork, activated street frontages and streetscape embellishment.
