Mecone worked in collaboration with Dungog Shire Council and a multidisciplinary team to deliver a coordinated suite of strategic planning documents under the Commonwealth-funded Housing Support Program. Together, these strategies provide a clear roadmap to guide growth across the Shire to 2041.
The Master Plan responds directly to the NSW Government’s Hunter Regional Plan 2041, with Dungog Shire Council identified to accommodate a minimum of 2,400 new homes. It sets out how the Shire can manage this growth in a way that strengthens towns and villages, supports local services and infrastructure, and protects rural landscapes and environmental values.
The adopted package includes:
• Local Strategic Planning Statement (Growth Management Strategy)
• Local Housing Strategy
• Rural Lands Strategy
• Infrastructure Capacity & Prioritisation Plan
• Dungog Strategic Centre Structure Plan
• Dungog Locali Spatial Viewer
Together, these documents establish a practical, evidence-based framework to ensure housing, infrastructure and land use decisions are aligned, sequenced, and deliverable. A key strength of the project has been the extensive community visioning and public exhibition process, which has directly shaped the final strategies and ensured local priorities are reflected in the adopted framework.
With adoption now complete, the Master Plan provides Council with a clear pathway for implementation, future planning controls, and infrastructure coordination across the Shire.
Mecone is proud to have supported Council in delivering this important work alongside our consultant partners.
