Extensive early engagement with communities across Dungog Shire earlier this year helped shape the vision and draft plans, grounding them firmly in local insights, values, and lived experience. The Master Plan is now on public exhibition, marking a once in a generation opportunity for the community to shape the future of the Shire.

Mecone is proud to have been the Lead Consultant for this project, working in close collaboration with Council and our team of subconsultants to develop a coordinated, evidence-based framework to guide sustainable and well managed growth across the Shire.
Dungog Shire Council has endorsed a suite of major strategic planning documents under the Commonwealth Government-funded Housing Support Program – Stream 1. The draft strategies establish the foundation for managing growth over the next 15 years and beyond. The work aligns with the NSW Government’s Housing 2041 and the Hunter Regional Plan 2041, with Dungog Shire earmarked to deliver a minimum of 2,400 new homes.
This comprehensive Master Plan strengthens the future of Dungog Shire’s towns, villages and rural areas, a place known for its strong community spirit, stunning natural landscapes and rural character. The strategy seeks to ensure the right housing in the right places, supported by enabling infrastructure, services and a resilient local economy, while protecting what makes Dungog Shire so special.
Community feedback will play a key role in refining the final plans. Council is now seeking to understand what resonates, what needs adjustment, and where further clarity would be helpful before final decisions are made.
We are proud to have led the development of these strategies and look forward to supporting the next phases of this important project.
