Updates to the Planning Systems SEPP (published today, 14 November) have now come into force. They all allow Residential State Significant Development to seek an exemption from carrying out a required competitive design process.

Instead, developments are able to follow an Alternative Design Excellence (ADE) pathway, either through the SDRP or a proponent-led Design Review Panel process.

This pathway will be in place until November 2027 and closely mirrors the process in place for Housing Delivery Authority SSD projects.

Updates to Government Architect’s guidance on this, and also Design Review Panel processes will also be published very shortly.
