This morning, the Mecone team came together to celebrate International Women’s Day 2025 and reflect on this year’s theme: #AccelerateAction.

We know that driving real change requires action, advocacy, and a commitment to addressing the challenges women face – both in our industry and beyond.

We heard from some of the amazing women at Mecone, including Ann-Maree Carruthers, who shared insights into Mecone’s involvement in key committees and the importance of representation in decision-making.

Jennifer Nguyen and Paige Matthews shared insights from their article, “Tackling Housing Vulnerability for Single Older Women: A Call for Action,” highlighting the urgent need for policy responses to support this growing demographic.

Margaret Paige spoke about “From Heatwaves to Hardship: The Unequal Burden of Climate Change,” exploring how climate change disproportionately impacts women.

Both articles will be published in this month’s PIA NSW New Planner (March 2025 edition) and we look forward to reading them.

Thank you to all the incredible women who shared their expertise today and to everyone who continues to champion gender equity in planning.
