The NSW Government has today introduced a new State Significant Rezoning Policy for NSW.

The new policy is aimed at speeding up critical rezoning’s to address the states growing housing and employment needs.

The policy has a list of criteria with key elements including:

  • Faster Rezoning: Rezoning timeframes are reduced by up to 200 working days, with state-assessed timeframes ranging from 180-205 working days post lodgement and State led rezoning timeframes of 270 working days from exhibition.
  • 2 distinct pathways for rezoning:

· State-led rezoning for larger scale areas or precincts

· State-assessed planning proposals for key sites or those facing ‘unreasonable’ delays.

Other criteria will also be considered, such as project delivery confidence, funding, and complexity. Importantly, projects must be selected by The Department of Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure – meeting the criteria doesn’t guarantee automatic inclusion.
