Description
Following the amendments to the EP&A Act 1979 that give effect to the Greater Sydney Region and District Plans, every Council in Greater Sydney are required to prepare a Local Strategic Planning Statement which sets out the 20-year vision for land use in the local area, the special character and values that are to be preserved and how change will be managed into the future.
Mecone were engaged by the Greater Sydney Commission to assist in the development of assurance review processes and provide Strategic Advisory services in the review of several Local Strategic Planning Statements across the Phase 2 and Phase 3 Health Checks. This is to help ensure that all LSPSs meet minimum requirements and are considered suitable to inform LEP updates.
Scope of Works
Mecone’s involvement included planning investigations including:
- Assisting the GSC develop the Assurance review processes for the Phase 2 Health Check;
- In-depth reviews of:
- Council-led LEP reviews;
- Matters raised by NSW State agencies; and
- Draft Local Strategic Planning Statements, for consistency with the Region and District Plans as well as council’s Community Strategic Plans.
- Drafting Briefing Notes to District Commissions identifying critical issues; and
- Meeting with councils to discuss matters raised and any gaps in LSPSs that need to be addressed to meet minimum requirements and ensure positive assurance outcomes.
