10-16 Little Miller Street, Brunswick East


The project is a collaboration between two award-winning local architecture firms, Kerstin Thompson Architects and Breathe Architecture, to transform an under-utilised industrial parcel into a contemporary, higher-density and sustainable community in Brunswick East.

The new four distinctive buildings will integrate with the adjoining Balfe Park and other new developments in the area. The development incorporates a new pedestrian network, a central courtyard, a new café as well as a roof-top communal garden, blending the private and public realms with design principles for safety and sense of place. The best practice design adopted for the

project will provide the dual aspect apartments with a high level of natural cross-ventilation, daylight and outlook to Balfe Park and also the Melbourne CBD.
The development will set a new benchmark for sustainable community living, housing diversity and sustainable building design with a new, strong sense of identity to the ever-evolving urban fabric of Brunswick East.

Scope of Works

Mecone was engaged to undertake the following tasks:

  • Pre-purchase due diligence.
  • Preliminary concept design advice.
  • Pre-application meeting with Council.
  • Liaising with project consultants.
  • Preparation of Town Planning Report and lodgement of planning permit application.
  • Management of the application process, including negotiation with Council officers.
  • Coordination of the appeal process through Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) and assistance with mediation with Council officers and objectors.
  • Ongoing advice for post-permit design amendments.
