Balmain Leagues Club Development Control Plan

At its 11 December 2018 meeting, the Inner West Council endorsed an amended Balmain Leagues Club Development Control Plan to go on public exhibition in early 2019. This is a significant step forward to enable the realisation of this complex site as a high-quality, mixed-use development that includes a local Club and public plaza to complement the Rozelle Darling Street retail precinct.

Mecone congratulates the proponent and new owner @Heworth Holdings Group and the consultancy team including @Scott Carver (Project Architects) on this great result. Mecone has worked closely with the project team to progress a new DCP and DA for this site that is aiming to deliver:

  • New high-quality residential dwellings along Victoria Road and Waterloo Street;
  • Return of a Club to the Balmain Leagues Club site;
  • A public plaza and connecting laneways surrounded by local food and beverage retail offering to complement the existing Rozelle Darling Street precinct;
  • A local supermarket to service the existing and future community;
  • Small-scale commercial offering with a focus on start-up and creative industries; and
  • Delivery of significant community infrastructure and benefits through an amended Voluntary Planning Agreement associated with the site’s redevelopment.

Mecone and the project team look forward to continuing to work with Inner West Council and the community to see this important project progress.
