Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre Approval

At the Central Sydney Planning Committee meeting on 11 May 2017, the City of Sydney Council carried unanimously the recommendation to grant development consent to the ‘Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre’, a new aquatic centre and park located in the Green Square urban renewal area. The aquatic centre features a striking architectural design prepared by Andrew Burges Architects in association with Grimshaw and T.C.L, which was the winning design of an architectural design competition held by the City in 2014. The building will adjoin the new ‘Gunyama Park’ which will include a playing field, playground, walkways, fitness equipment and other park amenities.

Mecone worked with the architectural team to provide advice around planning constraints and the planning pathway, and prepared in support of the development the Statement of Environmental Effects and a Clause 4.6 Variation Request to the maximum height of buildings control, as well as further advice and responses to information requests following DA lodgement in 2016. We are excited to see this important piece of community infrastructure be approved, and look forward to seeing it take shape.
